Dawson Heathcote – VIJHL’s Top Forward 2019/2020 Season

Last weekend Generals forward Dawson Heathcote was named the VIJHL’s Top Forward.

Before the opening face off of Game 3 against Kerry Park he was handed the Brian Morrison Award. Dawson is the first General to win the award.

“It’s a pretty cool accomplishment for me. Obviously my team helped me out, we won a lot of games.”

Dawson collected 63 points in just 43 games for the Generals this season.

“I’m thankful for my teammates and I’m pretty happy I got the award. I’m happy I beat my points record when I was 16, that was my goal this year.”

It’s the second big award for Dawson, who was named the Rookie of the Year in the VIJHL for the 2016-17 season.

Both awards for the Nanaimo product have come with Dan Lemmon behind the bench.

“It was well deserved, Dawson is for sure one of the best forwards in the league. He has contributed to our team offensively and he gives it his all every game.

Dawson currently has at least a point in 16 straight games.

The Oceanside Generals have clinched top spot in the VIJHL North Divison

PARKSVILLE- The Oceanside Generals have clinched top spot in the VIJHL’s North Division.
It’s the first time the Generals have clinched the Division  since the 2008-09 season.

“It’s a huge accomplishment for our squad and it was the goal at the start of the season. It’s crazy to think how far this team has come in the past few seasons”.
Dziadyk has played more than 200 games with the Generals.
“My first year on the team, we won 7 games and now we’re looking to break a record and be the best Generals team in franchise history.”
The Qualicum Beach product credits this group of players and the coaching staff for all the success.
“It’s such a great feeling to be part of this team, the guys all get along together so well and we have the best coaching staff in the league. It really makes coming to the rink everyday something to look forward too. We wouldn’t be able to be where we are without them and we’re all so fired up ! “

Generals sink Islanders on Saturday at the Howie Meeker

Parksville- The Quality Foods Oceanside Generals got back in the win column with a 4-0 victory over the visiting Kerry Park Islanders on Saturday night. The win comes after back-to-back losses this week, 7-6 against Westshore and 6-3 to Campbell River.
Veteran forward Foster Martin would get the scoring started on Saturday when he buried his own rebound for his 7th goal of the season. The Generals would take a 1-0 lead into the second period after out shooting the Islanders 18-7.
The Generals would come out of the gate firing in the second. Liam Moody would notch his 8th of the season just 34 seconds into the period. Less than a minute later, Trey Boylan would put the Generals up 3-0 with his 6th of the campaign. Isaac Leik would add a power-play goal before the period would come to an end to put the Generals up 4-0.
The Generals would test Islanders’ goaltender Spencer Deakin 11 times in the third but the former General came up big to keep the score at 4-0. Jake Sweet turned away 26 shots for his first shutout of the season.
The Generals return to the ice Friday on the road against Comox before returning to the Howie Meeker on Saturday to host Saanich.

The Quality Food Oceanside Generals are rolling right now

The Quality Foods Oceanside Generals are rolling right now. They have won 7 games in a row after a pair of victories this past weekend.

On Saturday night, the Generals played host to their mid-Island rivals the Nanaimo Buccaneers.

Liam Moody got the Generals on that board just 1:39 into the opening period. Cage Newans would put the Generals up 2-0 before former General Chase Heslop would cut the lead in half for Nanaimo.With just 8 seconds left in the opening frame, Captain Landon Dziadyk found the back of the net to put the Generals up 3-1.

Nanaimo pulled with in a goal in the second, but the Generals would pull away in the third with goals from Dawson Heathcote and Foster Martin for a 5-2 win.

James Brendeland made 28 saves for the win.

On Sunday afternoon the Generals hit the road for a trip to Mill Bay to battle the Kerry Park Islanders.

The Generals would jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first before the Islanders bounced back with two goals to the game 2-2.  After a scoreless second period, Will Norman would put a shot perfectly under the cross bar to put the Generals up 3-2 in the third. Greyson Weme and Foster Martin would add two more for the Generals en route to a 5-2 win.

The Generals will look to extend their winning streak to 8 on Friday in Campbell River. The Generals will return to home base on Saturday when they host Nanaimo.

MAKE IT 5 STRAIGHT WINS FOR THE GENERALS
PARKSVILLE, B.C– The Oceanside Generals continue to stay hot at the right time. The Generals picked up two more wins this weekend and have now won five games in a row.
On Friday, the Generals hit the road for a North Division battle with the Campbell River Storm. The Generals had some pretty cool guests on the bus for the journey too. It was the third annual Dad’s Trip.
More than a dozen dads joined the players on the bus Friday afternoon.
The Generals came out of the gate firing at the Brindy.  Dawson Heathcote opened the scoring just 1:47 into the opening period to make it 1-0. Sean Brendeland would make it 2-0 for the Generals shortly after with his first goal in the VIJHL.
The Storm would come back to tie things up 2-2 before the period came to an end.
In the second Dawson Heathcote would put the Generals up 3-2 with his second goal of the game. The Storm again would tie the game up 3-3 on the Power-Play just a minute later.
In the third , the Generals would regain the lead on a nice goal from rookie forward Cage Newans to make it 4-3.
The Generals would hold on for the win, their third straight against the Storm.
On Saturday night back at the Howie Meeker, the Generals played host to the Kerry Park Islanders.
The Islanders would open the scoring just 19 seconds into the game before the Generals answered back with three quick goals to take a 3-1 lead into the second period.
In the middle frame both teams would trade goals, the Generals first followed by two from the Islanders before Elijah Goyer made it 5-3 to close out the second frame.
In the third period the Generals would add two more goals en route to a 7-3 win.
The Generals are now 17-5-1 on the season and sit a top the North Division standings with 35 points.
Next up for the Generals is a Saturday night meeting with the Nanaimo Buccaneers. Game time is 7:00 PM at the Howie Meeker.
