 GENERALS SIGN CAMPBELL RIVER PRODUCT NOLAN WYATT

 The Oceanside Generals are proud to announce that Forward Nolan Wyatt has committed to the hockey club for the upcoming season.The 2003-born Campbell River product collected 18 points (8G,10A) in 37 games last season with the North Island Silvertips in the BCMML.  He also suited up with the Generals in 3 games as an AP and picked up an assist.

“I’m a gritty forward who plays a 200-foot game. I’m not afraid to go to the dirty areas and I love to put the puck in the net,” said Wyatt. 
 
The signing of Wyatt is the first roster move of the Spring for the Generals who will be very busy over the next couple of months leading up to the 2020-21 season. 
“We are very excited to have Nolan and his family joining the Oceanside Generals. Nolan has an incredible hockey IQ and is an excellent skater, all of which goes along with an overwhelming work ethic. We look forward to Nolan making an immediate impact in our forward group next season,” said GM/AC Andrew Riddell.

“The Oceanside Generals support the difficult but necessary decision today from Hockey Canada to cancel all Hockey Canada sanctioned events due to the ongoing global COVID-19 Pandemic.”

“The safety of our player, staff, volunteers and of course our fans is the most important priority at this time.  “We wish to thank our fans, volunteers, and many partners in the Oceanside community for continuing to support the Generals organization.  We will continue to communicate updates as they become available to us.”

Games 1 and 2 of the North Division Final against the Storm have been postponed.

*Please note that all Oceanside Generals Players and Staff are all currently healthy.*

The following statement is from BC Hockey;

BC Hockey statement from Chief Executive Officer Barry Petrachenko

“The Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) along with BC Hockey have announced the postponement of the first two (2) games of the playoff series between the Campbell River Storm and Oceanside Generals on Tuesday, March 10 and Friday, March 13, 2020.

At this time, the postponement of the games is precautionary.

With the ongoing international health situation involving COVID-19 (Coronavirus), extra precaution is being administered. Currently no player or staff member on either team has been diagnosed with COVID-19, however several players are self-isolating for influenza-like symptoms on the recommendation of public health officials.

The VIJHL, in consultation with BC Hockey and the Island Health Authority are taking the measures to be extremely cautious in situations with any illnesses. The health and safety of our participants is our priority.

The VIJHL and BC Hockey will communicate any updates to this situation, including the re-scheduled dates of games, when it becomes available.

Currently, no other league playoff games or BC Hockey Championships have been postponed. BC Hockey is working closely with Hockey Canada and the provincial and regional health authorities to monitor all situations daily.”

Dawson Heathcote – VIJHL’s Top Forward 2019/2020 Season

Last weekend Generals forward Dawson Heathcote was named the VIJHL’s Top Forward.

Before the opening face off of Game 3 against Kerry Park he was handed the Brian Morrison Award. Dawson is the first General to win the award.

“It’s a pretty cool accomplishment for me. Obviously my team helped me out, we won a lot of games.”

Dawson collected 63 points in just 43 games for the Generals this season.

“I’m thankful for my teammates and I’m pretty happy I got the award. I’m happy I beat my points record when I was 16, that was my goal this year.”

It’s the second big award for Dawson, who was named the Rookie of the Year in the VIJHL for the 2016-17 season.

Both awards for the Nanaimo product have come with Dan Lemmon behind the bench.

“It was well deserved, Dawson is for sure one of the best forwards in the league. He has contributed to our team offensively and he gives it his all every game.

Dawson currently has at least a point in 16 straight games.

The Oceanside Generals have clinched top spot in the VIJHL North Divison

PARKSVILLE- The Oceanside Generals have clinched top spot in the VIJHL’s North Division.
It’s the first time the Generals have clinched the Division  since the 2008-09 season.
Captain Landon Dziadyk on finishing atop the North.
“It’s a huge accomplishment for our squad and it was the goal at the start of the season. It’s crazy to think how far this team has come in the past few seasons”.
Dziadyk has played more than 200 games with the Generals.
“My first year on the team, we won 7 games and now we’re looking to break a record and be the best Generals team in franchise history.”
The Qualicum Beach product credits this group of players and the coaching staff for all the success.
“It’s such a great feeling to be part of this team, the guys all get along together so well and we have the best coaching staff in the league. It really makes coming to the rink everyday something to look forward too. We wouldn’t be able to be where we are without them and we’re all so fired up ! “

Generals sink Islanders on Saturday at the Howie Meeker

Parksville- The Quality Foods Oceanside Generals got back in the win column with a 4-0 victory over the visiting Kerry Park Islanders on Saturday night. The win comes after back-to-back losses this week, 7-6 against Westshore and 6-3 to Campbell River.
Veteran forward Foster Martin would get the scoring started on Saturday when he buried his own rebound for his 7th goal of the season. The Generals would take a 1-0 lead into the second period after out shooting the Islanders 18-7.
The Generals would come out of the gate firing in the second. Liam Moody would notch his 8th of the season just 34 seconds into the period. Less than a minute later, Trey Boylan would put the Generals up 3-0 with his 6th of the campaign. Isaac Leik would add a power-play goal before the period would come to an end to put the Generals up 4-0.
The Generals would test Islanders’ goaltender Spencer Deakin 11 times in the third but the former General came up big to keep the score at 4-0. Jake Sweet turned away 26 shots for his first shutout of the season.
The Generals return to the ice Friday on the road against Comox before returning to the Howie Meeker on Saturday to host Saanich.
