BACK-TO-BACK WINS FOR THE GENERALS

On Friday night the Generals defeated the defending VIJHL Champion Victoria Cougars 3-2.

Elijah Goyer led the way for the Generals finding the back of the net twice and adding an assist. Cage Newans scored his first VIJHL goal in his Generals debut while Greyson Weme added two helpers. James Brendeland was solid again in goal stopping 38 of the 40 shots he faced.

The Generals special teams were almost perfect on Friday in the win going 6 for 6 on the penalty kill and 1 for 2 of the Power Play.

On Saturday night the Generals blanked the Comox Valley Glacier Kings 2-0.

Dawson Heathcote and Elijah Goyer scored and Cedric Rechsteiner made 23 saves for his first VIJHL shutout.

The Generals now have a very busy week ahead with 3 games in 4 days starting with a road game in Colwood against Westshore followed by a trip to Campbell River on Friday and a home game on Saturday against Saanich.

Welcome Nolan Kurceba- Goalie Coach

“We feel Nolan is going to be a great addition to our coaching staff specifically focused on our goalies. His work with some of our goalies in the past like David Anderson and James Brendeland speaks for itself. Being able to add Nolan to our staff helps us continue to add to our program. We look forward to working with Nolan this season.”

Pre Season Update

 

The Oceanside Generals finished the preseason with a 2-1 record. The Generals lost to Campbell River 3-2, beat Mission City 4-3 and Nanaimo 5-4 in a shootout.

Generals Head Coach Dan Lemmon comments on how his team played in the three games.

” I wanted to see that we’re getting better and the kids are picking up  things that the coaching staff is trying to teach them. I would say after watching three games, I’m not incredibly pleased but we definitely picked some things up and got better.”

In both victories the Generals came from behind.

“Right now everyone looks good on paper but now the going gets tough, now its the real deal and every game means something from here on out.”

A pair of veterans James Brendeland and Landon Dziadyk did not play in any of the preseason games.

“Both guys have minor injuries and we just rested them to make sure they can be fully healthy by the time they come back. It’s just a day by day thing right now and nothing too serious.”

Lemmon is hopeful both players will be in the lineup come Thursday when the Generals open the 2019-20 regular season in Nanaimo.

Game time is set for 7:15 PM at the Nanaimo Ice Centre. Fans can catch all the action on 88.5 The Beach and Hockey TV.

The Generals home opener will be Saturday September 7th at the Howie Meeker Arena against Westshore. Puck drop is 7 PM.

Generals tame the Cougars

Generals tame the Cougars
The Quality Foods Oceanside Generals are coming off one of the biggest wins of the season. The Generals snapped a 15 game losing streak in Victoria against the Cougars on Thursday with a 2-1 win.
The last win prior to Thursday night for the Generals on the road against the Cougars was back on December 9th 2010 a 4-3 shootout win. Kyle Yamasaki scored the game winning goal.
” I thought it was our best sixty minute effort of the year. From start to finish we played the body on Victoria, guys were getting pucks in deep and making smart plays all around” said Assistant Coach Chris Lennox after the game.
A great passing play got the scoring started for the Generals after Brady Kay took a nice feed from Greyson Weme. For Kay it was his 8th goal of the season matching a career high.
“It was a really good team effort tonight, all the boys were going. I had some new line mates tonight got a goal with them, it was great” said Kay post game.
Landon Dziadyk notched his 23rd goal of the season and James Brendeland made 31 saves for the Generals.
The Generals game against Comox last Friday was cancelled due to the weather and bad conditions. The makeup date will be Tuesday Feb 19th at the Howie Meeker Arena.  Game time is 7PM.
